Manchester United are beginning to make their moves in the transfer market, but the club also appear to be reconsidering some of the deals they had previously agreed.

The Red Devils had reached a £38million agreement with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson, while a £50million move for Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos is also reportedly close, with a medical already completed.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ederson’s proposed move to Manchester United is now off, with the deal considered collapsed after the club informed Atalanta.

Romano posted on X: “Éderson to Manchester United, deal OFF and considered as collapsed as Man Utd informed Atalanta. Atalanta believe Éderson is 100% fit and will welcome the midfielder back as part of their squad, as Man United changed their plans. Éderson won’t join #MUFC.”

Ederson represented Brazil at the World Cup, where they were knocked out in the round of 16 by Norway. The Brazilian was previously linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer of 2024.

Following their decision to end negotiations for Ederson, Manchester United are expected to turn their attention to alternative midfield targets.

AS Roma’s Manu Kone has emerged as one option, with the club reportedly making contact with the French midfielder’s representatives over a potential transfer.

Kone has impressed at the World Cup, playing a key role in France’s run to the semi-finals, and could be available for a more affordable fee compared to other midfielders who have moved this summer.

United are still believed to be targeting a marquee midfielder, with replacing Casemiro remaining a priority. The club have missed out on several targets, including Elliot Anderson, who joined Manchester City for £116million, while Aurelien Tchouameni is set to sign a new contract with Real Madrid.

With Andrey Santos reportedly arriving instead of Ederson, United’s focus could now shift towards finding a high-profile defensive midfielder to strengthen Michael Carrick’s squad.
