Mohamed Salah’s future is set to be one of the biggest transfer stories this summer after Liverpool confirmed in March that the Egyptian forward would leave the club following a hugely successful nine-year spell at Anfield.
Salah’s final season with Liverpool was a difficult one, with the forward recording seven goals and seven assists in 27 Premier League appearances during the 2025/26 campaign.
That followed a historic 2024/25 season, when he led the Reds to the Premier League title with a career-best 29 goals and 18 assists.
After previously rejecting a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia during his peak years at Liverpool, Salah is once again being linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
A reunion with former teammates Sadio Mane and Fabinho, who currently play for Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad respectively, has been discussed, with Al-Ittihad among the clubs most interested after making a huge offer for him in the past.
A move to MLS or Turkey is also possible, while a return to Serie A could appeal to Salah after previous spells with Fiorentina and AS Roma. A move back to AS Roma would also allow him to continue playing Champions League football.
According to The Athletic, Sporting Kansas City have emerged as the leading MLS contenders for Salah’s signature as the club prepare an ambitious move for the free agent.
However, a move to MLS remains considered unlikely due to strong interest from the Saudi Pro League. Salah would prefer to remain in Europe, although he is open to exploring options in North America.
Several MLS clubs have registered interest in the 34-year-old, but Sporting Kansas City currently sit in pole position to sign the Egyptian star should Salah decide to move across the Atlantic.
Salah’s future has become a major talking point after Egypt were eliminated from the World Cup by Argentina in the round of 16.
Sporting’s new majority owner Peter Mallouk, whose parents are Egyptian immigrants, could also be a factor in the club’s pursuit of the Liverpool legend.
