Eddie Howe’s future has been placed under question amid an apparent exodus at Newcastle United.
Former Sunderland striker Darren Bent believes Eddie Howe could resign as Newcastle United manager.
If Alexander Isak’s sale last year was damaging, the Magpies have already lost two top stars this summer in Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali. Bruno Guimaraes could soon follow after he signalled his intention to leave.
Arsenal are yet to make formal contact with Newcastle but have held discussions with the player’s camp. As it stands, there has been radio silence from Guimaraes as the transfer saga unfolds in public.
Eddie Howe to resign?
Speaking to talkSPORT, ex-Premier League bagsman Bent suggested Howe might walk away if Guimaraes is also sold. The Toon boss has watched on as his prized assets are picked off one by one.
"It's one of them for Newcastle,” Bent said. “I would more fear for Newcastle with the Eddie Howe scenario. Because if I'm Eddie Howe - he's not a miracle worker.
"But at some point, you need to help him financially to be able to get it over the line like he did with the League Cup (2025 triumph). So I just think, at one point, he might just go, 'Do you know what? Enough. There's no more I could do with this football club, enough's enough.'"
Stuart Pearce backs Eddie Howe
A former Toon defender, Stuart Pearce, sympathises with Howe and would be sad to see him leave St James’ Park. He added: "I sincerely hope not because I really like him as a manager, and I think that he's a good fit at Newcastle.
“The fans have bought in with Eddie and I just like his management style, I really do. He's not a self-publicist in any way, I think he's very good at his trade. I think it will be a massive loss for Newcastle and Eddie, if they parted company."
