Report: Arsenal closing in on signing of £35m forward

Arsenal’s long-standing interest in Christos Tzolis appears to be gathering momentum, with fresh updates from Fabrizio Romano suggesting the Club Brugge winger is prepared to wait for a move to north London this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal remain in regular contact with Tzolis’ representatives as they monitor Leandro Trossard’s situation. The Belgian side are reportedly pushing to sign Trossard, and if the Arsenal forward completes his departure, it could clear the path for the Gunners to accelerate their move for the Greek international.

“Arsenal maintain regular contact with Christos Tzolis’ camp over a potential move this summer. Tzolis wants the move, waiting for Leandro Trossard to decide on an exit with Besiktas pushing.”

The latest update builds on reports from the BBC earlier this summer, which revealed that Arsenal had been offered the opportunity to sign the 24-year-old and were seriously considering bringing forward a move.

According to those reports, sporting director Andrea Berta has been actively working behind the scenes on the deal, while Arsenal’s recruitment expert Maurizio Micheli travelled to scout Tzolis in person. Sources also indicated that Mikel Arteta has approved the signing, highlighting that the interest is far more advanced than a routine scouting exercise.

With an expected asking price of around £35million, Tzolis represents an intriguing option in Arsenal’s search for greater depth and competition on the left wing. Compared to some of the elite names linked with the club (Barcola and Rogers quoted at over £100million each), the Greece international would arrive for a significantly lower fee while still offering considerable upside.

Tzolis enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Club Brugge last season, establishing himself as one of Belgium’s most productive attackers. Comfortable playing from the left but capable of operating across the frontline, he combines direct dribbling, intelligent movement and a strong eye for goal – qualities that fit the profile Arsenal have been targeting.

Should Trossard complete his expected move away from the Emirates, Arsenal would have both the squad space and financial flexibility to move decisively. Romano’s latest update suggests that all parties are simply waiting for that domino to fall. Tzolis fee would be higher than what Arsenal get for Trossard (largely due to age) but after Leo’s pay rise last season, the expectation is Tzolis would be earning a lot less.

With Andrea Berta already laying the groundwork and Arteta reportedly giving his approval weeks ago, this is a transfer that feels increasingly well-positioned to happen. If Trossard departs in the coming days, don’t be surprised if Arsenal quickly turn their long-standing interest into a formal bid for Tzolis.
