Liverpool are in the middle of one of the most significant summers in recent memory.

Shamal George spent over a decade in Liverpool’s academy system, signing for the club in 2009 as an 11-year-old from local side Manor.
He rose through the ranks to sign his first professional contract in 2016 and earned cult status among those who were watching when Jurgen Klopp, having exhausted all his outfield substitutes during a pre-season friendly against Huddersfield Town, sent the young goalkeeper on as a striker for the final 25 minutes of the match.
It remains one of the more charming footnotes in Liverpool’s recent history.
George has now officially joined League One newcomers Bromley FC on a free transfer following his departure from Wycombe Wanderers, becoming the Ravens’ second signing of the summer window.
George’s path from Liverpool to Bromley is one of genuine perseverance.
After loan spells at Carlisle United, Tranmere Rovers and non-league Marine failed to secure him a permanent first-team berth, he was released by Liverpool at the end of the 2019-20 season.
Rather than fade away, he rebuilt his career methodically.
His time at Colchester United between 2020 and 2022 was where he truly established himself.
Across 45 league appearances for the Essex club, he kept 13 clean sheets and was voted their Player of the Year by supporters for the 2021-22 campaign, a recognition that spoke to just how far he had come since his Anfield days.
Scottish Premiership side Livingston then paid an undisclosed fee to sign him in July 2022, and he repaid that faith with 80 appearances across two seasons at the top level of Scottish football.
His most recent chapter has been defined by resilience.
After joining Wycombe Wanderers in August 2024, competition for the starting spot limited him to just five cup appearances across two seasons.
The loan move to St Mirren in July 2025 proved the perfect response.
George played 33 Scottish Premiership games, faced 151 shots, made 96 saves at a save percentage of 66.7 percent, and claimed 31 high balls across the campaign.
The crowning moment came in December when St Mirren defeated Celtic 3-1 in the Scottish League Cup final, with George earning a winners medal in the first major honour of his senior career.
Now 28, and standing at 1.98 metres, George arrives at Bromley as a goalkeeper with over 200 senior appearances to his name, Scottish top-flight experience, and a League Cup winners medal in his back pocket.
