Dominik Szoboszlai is hopeful Andoni Iraola can oversee a step in the right direction after failing to sustain their Premier League and Champions League bids last season.
Szoboszlai was Arne Slot‘s go-to man in seemingly every position, with the Hungarian readily the first player moved if injury or suspension befell a teammate.
He played the full 90 minutes in all but two Premier League games last season and finished with the second-most minutes of any Liverpool player (4,736), behind only Virgil van Dijk.
The Hungarian will return for pre-season at the start of the week to work under a new head coach, one he hopes can lead Liverpool to the success he craves.

In an extensive interview with L’Equipe in Budapest, he said: “I’m convinced we can compete, and I’m hopeful that with the new coach, Andoni Iraola, we’ll be heading in the right direction.”
Szoboszlai’s look ahead came during a discussion of his dreams and how Liverpool have been outclassed by back-to-back Champions League winners PSG in each of the last two seasons.
He explained: “Honestly, when I was a kid, I always dreamed of winning the Champions League, probably more than winning the Premier League.
“But now that I’ve had a taste of it, I absolutely want to win the Premier League again because it was so incredible in 2025.”

Iraola was appointed to oversee a turn in Liverpool’s fortunes both domestically and in Europe, playing the style of football that is defined by intensity and demanded by Anfield.
Szoboszlai will be key, again, for the Reds, and he remains open to playing any position that helps the team.
He said: “I could easily say, ‘I don’t want to play fullback; either you put me in the middle, or I’m not playing’.
“But I don’t do that because I want to help my team in every way possible. And I want to win, regardless of the position I’m forced to play.”
He added: “I’m a team player. I’m not too nice, trust me. And besides, if we’re honest, switching from midfield to full-back isn’t really difficult.”
