Manchester City youngster Sverre Nypan has joined City Football Group side Lommel on loan for the 2026-27 season.

The 19-year-old spent the first half of last season with Middlesbrough in the Championship but the move didn't work out and he returned to City in January.

He will now link up with a Lommel side that won promotion to the Belgian top-flight last season via the play-offs.

Nypan has yet to make a senior appearance for City, but was involved in first-team training and travelled with the Blues for both domestic cup finals last season as a non-playing squad member.

It is understood that City feel the switch to Lommel will offer the midfielder regular match minutes in an environment where the Blues feel he can develop and thrive under manager Lee Johnson.

There were other options available to Nypan, but City are keen to see him play regular football, and the hope is that the move to Belgium gives the teenager the best opportunity of gaining match minutes.

It is understood that City Director of Football Hugo Viana was involved in the decision-making process, which is not always the case with loan exits

Nypan joined City for £12.5million from Norwegian side Rosenborg, where he had broken through as a youngster. The Blues won a competitive race for his signature with a host of top European clubs keen.
