Bruno Guimaraes told he should only be allowed to leave Newcastle United for Arsenal on one…

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has urged Newcastle United to take control of the Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal saga.

Simon Jordan has urged Newcastle United to sit down with Bruno Guimaraes and his agent and tell them he won’t be sold unless their demands are met.

The Brazilian wants to leave Newcastle, four-and-a-half years after arriving from Lyon for £40million, and has reportedly informed the club’s hierarchy of his desire to join Premier League champions Arsenal.

The Magpies are yet to be contacted by the Gunners but their stance is that their captain is not for sale. Jordan, however, believes that every player has a price and unless that price is met, Guimaraes should ‘get his head around’ staying at St James’ Park.

Guimaraes’ contract expires in 2028, however United have an option to extend his deal by a further year, effectively tying him down until June 2029.

It’s been widely suggested that Mikel Arteta’s side are willing to pay up to £65million for Guimaraes, but United value the 28-year-old closer to the £100million mark after selling Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur for that price.

“I still think the Newcastle hierarchy have got to sit with his player and his agent, and not be told they can,” former Crystal Palace owner Jordan told talkSPORT.

“He's their employee and he will do as he's told and make himself visible and aware to them and sit down and say, ‘right, well, listen, we don't want you to go. You're not going. But if there is an opportunity, if there really is a situation where we have to sell you, it'll only be on these terms, so get your head round it. Get your head into this space that we will only sell you at this price’ because it will come down to pounds, shillings and pence.

“It doesn’t matter who the club, the player will be sold if the price is met.

“The only way you can you can change the inevitability of the outcome not being to your best interest is to control the process and tell people very clearly and effectively and succinctly what is the outcome.

‘You will stay if these conditions aren’t met’.”
