Christos Tzolis appears close to a major transfer. The latest transfer news suggests Arsenal are entering the final stage of a £35 million deal for the Club Brugge winger. The switch would strengthen the left flank ahead of the new season.

Christos Tzolis nears Arsenal switch as deal reaches final stage

As reported by The Sun, the Gunners are ready to complete a deal worth around £35 million with Club Brugge for their Greek international star. Strengthening the left side of the attack has been a clear priority for the north London club since the transfer window opened. Talks around the transfer have clearly sped up in recent days.

That search grew more urgent once Leandro Trossard agreed to join Besiktas in a £17million move after the World Cup. With a vacancy emerging on the flank, the champions moved quickly. An agreement with Brugge followed soon after for their forward.

Everything appears to be in place now, though the deal needs final approval before Christos Tzolis can travel to London and sign. Once that happens, the fee will make him the most expensive Greek player in history, edging past Brighton’s Babis Kostoulas, as reported by CaughtOffside.

Belgium League form explains growing Arsenal interest

The numbers help explain the growing interest. Last season alone, Christos Tzolis racked up 22 goals and 29 assists in 52 games, as reported by the Sun. It is a rare return for a wide player. That return is hard to match anywhere in European football right now. He also contributed in the Champions League, scoring thrice in thirteen appearances. One of those appearances came in a group-stage match against Arsenal, a game Brugge lost 3-0.

Competitions Matches Goals Assists

First Division A 36 17 23

Croky Cup 2 1 0

Super Cup 1 1 1

UCL 13 3 5

As reported by FootballPlace, since joining the Belgian champions in the summer of 2024, the forward has piled up 43 goals and 45 assists in 108 appearances, explaining why interest from the Premier League followed.

Importantly, this deal will not affect the pursuit of Morgan Rogers, who remains the top target despite Villa’s hefty £130 million price tag. So, landing a proven performer like Christos Tzolis for a quarter of that fee represents smart value.

Christos Tzolis rebuilt his career before this move materialised

This switch, though, follows a career that needed rebuilding first, not one that rose smoothly. As reported by the Sun, Norwich broke their transfer record to bring him in from PAOK in 2021. The early signs looked promising under Daniel Farke, who rated him highly. That plan fell apart almost immediately. Farke left within three months, and incoming boss Dean Smith took the side in a different direction.

Playing time became scarce from there. Christos Tzolis dropped to the reserves once Norwich were relegated, a stretch he has called the toughest of his career. “The first time I didn’t play with the first team, but with the second, I was very disappointed. That was the lowest point of my career,” he told Nieuwsblad, as reported bythe Sun.

Support from those closest to him proved decisive in turning things back around. “My agent and my family had to convince me not to give up,” he added. Two loan spells followed, at Twente and then Fortuna Dusseldorf. His form improved there, and he ended that campaign among Germany’s top scorers in the second tier. Dusseldorf activated a modest buy-out clause on that run, and Brugge signed him a few months later for £5.6million. Given how far he has travelled since, this latest Arsenal news represents a fitting reward for a difficult rebuild.
