All you need to know about Jarell Quansah's ban vs Norway:
Quansah's red card incident: Jarell Quansah is banned for Saturday's quarter-final because he received a straight red card during England's thrilling 3-2 victory over Mexico in the round of 16. The Bayer Leverkusen defender was sent off in the 54th minute following a VAR review for a reckless, studs-up tackle on Jesus Gallardo.
Suspension verdict: FIFA officially handed Quansah a two-match suspension as punishment for the severity of his challenge. The English Football Association reportedly explored appealing the decision, but those efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful.
Timeline for return: Consequently, Quansah will miss Saturday's crucial quarter-final clash against Norway in Miami. If Thomas Tuchel's men advance past the Norwegians, the defender will also sit out the semi-final, meaning he will only be available again if England reach the World Cup final.
Reece James' injury: The absence of Quansah exacerbates England's issues at right-back, as Chelsea captain Reece James is currently battling a hamstring injury. James suffered the muscle issue during the group-stage match against Ghana and remains a major doubt after missing team training on Wednesday.
Cautious approach: Even if James is deemed fit enough to make the matchday squad, medical staff have advised he should not be risked from the starting whistle. This leaves Tuchel with limited natural options to deploy on the right side of defence against Norway.
Djed Spence steps up: Djed Spence is the most likely candidate to get the start at right-back, having fully recovered from a recent fitness concern of his own. Although he has struggled slightly when deputising in previous matches, he is expected to join Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi and Nico O'Reilly in the starting backline.
Pickford makes history: In goal, Jordan Pickford is set to make history by playing in his record-breaking 18th World Cup match for the Three Lions. This landmark appearance will see him officially overtake legendary goalkeeper Peter Shilton for the most World Cup games played by an Englishman.
Guehi and Rice cleared: There were minor concerns earlier in the week when Guehi and Declan Rice sat out of Wednesday's team training session. However, this absence was purely a precautionary measure by the medical team and both key players are expected to be given the all-clear to start.
Henderson out, Kane chasing records: Jordan Henderson has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament after requiring wrist surgery following a freak injury suffered while celebrating the win over Mexico. On a brighter note, Harry Kane will surpass Gary Lineker's record for the most England goals at a single World Cup if he scores his seventh of the tournament this weekend.
