The Curtis Jones saga rumbles on, and there has been a fresh twist on the part of the player himself. The reliable Liverpool midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, now with less than a year remaining on his contract.
Jones played 34 of Liverpool's 38 Premier League games last season, and while it was a disappointing campaign for the Reds, the midfielder is a player who can be relied upon to put in a solid display.
Though, the Reds are likely to add to their midfield this summer, and with Jones out of contract, the Merseyside giants could be forced to sell to avoid any chance of losing him for free next summer.
Jones casts doubts over fresh Nottingham Forest transfer reports
Curtis Jones
On Saturday, it was reported that Nottingham Forest had agreed to pay Liverpool's £30million asking price for Jones, and that a deal was on track to go through. One Liverpool fan page posted the news of the 'agreed' deal, but Jones himself cast doubt over the deal by replying to the post with a raised eyebrow emoji.
That suggests Jones has very little idea of any transfer being agreed, and while it's not out of the question that it will be agreed, it would seem it is not yet. Inter Milan were also being heavily linked with Jones, but reports in Italy have reported that the Italian giants are not willing to pay the £30million being requested by Liverpool.
While Jones only has one year remaining on his deal, Liverpool know they have a valuable asset in Jones, who is only 25 years of age, an England international and a proven Premier League commodity, likely able to hold his own in most midfields, even if he is not a particularly flashy player.
Jones' lack of game time
Arne Slot looks on during a Liverpool match
Now former Liverpool boss Arne Slot said of Jones' lack of starts last season: “He has played a lot of minutes and has been unlucky in the sense that midfield is the only line where we haven’t had injuries. We kept him because we have players but we need players in these positions. At the moment, we need to start midfielders in different positions, so that line gets smaller and smaller.
“We kept him; his situation hasn’t changed for us. He is one of 16 outfield players we have available, with two young players in Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha, so it would be strange if we let anyone go.”
