Arsenal prospect snubs Chelsea & Man City, staying with the Gunners

Arsenal youngster Emerson Nwaneri has snubbed interest from Chelsea and Manchester City to stay with the Gunners this summer.

The 15-year-old is one of the brightest talents in the academy, and there were claims that he could move on and pursue a new challenge.

However, the Gunners have managed to convince him to stay after lengthy negotiations.

Chelsea and Manchester City explored the possibility of signing Emerson, but the midfielder is happy at Arsenal and chose to remain.

The teenager, regarded as a ‘big prospect’, will be a scholar with the club.

Emerson Nwaneri’s decision could be linked with his brother Ethan

Emerson made 14 appearances for the academy during the 2025/26 season. He predominantly played for the Under-18s with a solitary appearance for the Under-21s.

The youngster, primarily a central midfielder, had a forgettable Premier League 2 debut as the Arsenal Under-21s suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat to Liverpool in January.

Emerson has now committed his short-term future to the Gunners, a move that could be linked to the future of his elder brother Ethan, who was loaned out to Marseille during the second half of last season.

Earlier in April, BBC Sport reported that Ethan could be sold for ‘pure profit‘ this summer and the Gunners would look to recoup at least £100m from his exit alongside Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Lewis-Skelly has ended the speculation after his sublime end to the campaign. There has been speculation over Ethan’s future, but Emerson’s decision could mean he will stay.

The 19-year-old could possibly be loaned out to a mid-table Premier League outfit next season to continue his development, as Arsenal are eyeing a marquee midfielder this summer.
