Jamie Carragher has compared Jude Bellingham to Steven Gerrard after his World Cup heroics, with the Liverpool legend even suggesting that the midfielder has something his former captain lacked.
Bellingham fired England to the World Cup semifinals after scoring both goals in his country’s 2-1 win over Norway in Miami on Saturday.
The Real Madrid star equalized just before half-time after Andreas Schjelderup had opened the scoring. Having survived a second-half onslaught, Bellingham would fire the winner in the third minute of extra time, sending England through to a meeting with Argentina for a place in the World Cup final.
Bellingham now has six goals in the tournament, putting him level with England teammate Harry Kane and just two behind joint-top scorers Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
His performances at the World Cup have been hailed by Carragher, who suggested in his column for The Telegraph that Bellingham has already bettered Paul Gascoigne’s displays during the 1990 tournament in Italy.
Not only that, but he went on to compare the 23-year-old to Gerrard, who Bellingham has previously revealed was his hero growing up.

“We have always known Bellingham is a world-class player,” Carragher said. “Many of us will acknowledge he is proving himself even better than we thought.
“Since he burst on to the scene, when comparing him to England players, the most obvious reference point has been Steven Gerrard.
“Gerrard had absolutely everything as a midfielder: passing, tackling, goalscoring and – most crucially – the ability to change and win games, seemingly single-handedly at times.
