Dominik Szoboszlai has admitted his ambitions have changed, with the Liverpool midfielder wanting to win another Premier League title after previously favoring the Champions League.
Szoboszlai does of course already have one Premier League winner’s medal following the Reds’ title triumph last year. Having failed to defend its crown, Liverpool will have an uphill battle to get back into contention for the championship.
A poor 2025/26 season saw the Reds fall well short of eventual champions Arsenal as they barely scraped Champions League qualification by finishing fifth. Arne Slot was replaced by Andoni Iraola as a result, but Liverpool’s new head coach will have a lot of work to do on his squad to get it fighting for the title again.
Despite Liverpool’s struggles, Szoboszlai came away with his reputation enhanced last season, having been the clear standout performer, and while he has long held Champions League ambitions, his goals have now changed.
"As a child, I always dreamed of winning the Champions League — probably even more than winning the Premier League," Szoboszlai told L’Equipe. "But now that I’ve had a taste of it, I absolutely want to win the Premier League again because 2025 was just incredible.
"I’m convinced we can compete (in the Champions League), and I’m hopeful that with the new manager Andoni Iraola we’ll move in the right direction. And then, of course, I dream of playing in the World Cup one day."

Szoboszlai went on to add: "That’s the only way I think — you have to win. We play in such highly competitive leagues that there’s no room for skills designed merely to entertain the crowd.
"I know that last year, when we won the Premier League with Liverpool - the toughest league on the planet - our midfield ran the show, and without that, we wouldn't have been champions.
"But ultimately, who was the superstar of that title win? Mo Salah. Because we all did our utmost to put him in the best possible position to make the difference.
"I believe you always have to look at things through one question: what is best for the team? For instance, you could define a star player by their ability to make the difference all on their own. In that case, I’m a star too.

"But rest assured, I don’t put myself in the same category as Mbappe, Haaland, Lamine Yamal, or Vinicius right now, because I haven’t reached that level yet."
Szoboszlai is set to return to Liverpool in the coming days as the Reds get their pre-season preparations underway.
Iraola will speak to the media on Monday in his first press conference as the club’s head coach, before more first-team stars join the likes of Harvey Elliott and Jeremy Jacquet in training. Having not made it to the World Cup with Hungary, Szoboszlai will be among those expected to return this week.
