Barcelona sporting director Deco has held talks with the representatives of Cristian Romero again in recent days, per insider KrrishFT, with the Argentine centre-back firmly on their summer shortlist. Hansi Flick approves of the move and believes a deal is achievable at around the €50 million mark, though Tottenham are holding firm at €60 million as their fixed asking price. The gap between the two parties is real, and Barca will need Romero’s desire to leave to help bridge it.

That desire is not in question. The €45m Romero has made clear to Spurs’ board in recent months that he wants out, and his preference is LaLiga. Despite consistent links with Italian clubs, Spain is where he is focused. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are the two realistic destinations, with Diego Simeone’s Argentina connection making Atletico a genuine option.

Flick values Romero’s leadership, physicality and defensive aggression, but KrrishFT notes the scouting department retains reservations. That tracks with earlier reporting from Sport, which indicated Barcelona were cooling their pursuit as recently as July 3, with Flick expressing confidence in Pau Cubarsí and Gerard Martin and the club juggling priorities across multiple positions.
Romero is not the only name on their list. Alessandro Bastoni, Lukeba and Micky van de Ven have all been discussed internally, but Barca’s budget for a centre-back sits at €50 to €55 million. For Spurs, the situation is straightforward. With Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi already signed this summer, they are covered and ready to sell. The World Cup has concluded.
