Newcastle United have fought off competition from other clubs to sign the teenage winger from Arsenal.

Thompson has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, but fuelled speculation over a move to Newcastle earlier this week.
Thompson took to Instagram to post an image of himself walking into an airport. While not immediately clear which airport, anyone familiar will have been quickly able to identify it as Newcastle International.
Newcastle United agree to sign Arsenal teenager
Thompson is an England under-17s international and scored three goals in 26 appearances for Arsenal in the Under-18s Premier League last season. Arguably, his moment of the season came in the UEFA Youth League as he grabbed a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over Bayern Munich.
The Magpies previously tried to sign Thompson back in 2024, but the winger ended up joining Arsenal instead after leaving West Ham United’s academy set-up.
Two years later and United have finally lured the player to Tyneside.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano wrote on X: “Newcastle agree deal to sign England U17 winger Kyran Thompson from Arsenal Academy, here we go!
“Thompson has agreed to join #NUFC among five proposals, leaving Arsenal as free agent. Deal in place and new talent for Newcastle.”
Thompson is set to sign an initial scholarship deal as he is unable to sign a professional contract until he turns 17 in early-September.
Earlier this week, Newcastle confirmed that Chukwudi Afumuzor, Theo Benjamin, Roman Dowell, Jayden Kouossu, George Mair, Leon Mukumbira, Alfie Seldon and Lesecond Yeutembip have all signed scholarships with the club.
Thompson is likely to join those eight players in linking up with Chris Moore’s Under-18s squad for the 2026/27 campaign.
Academy chief Steve Harper said in a club statement: "Congratulations to each of the young players joining us as scholars this season.
"Stepping into a full-time football environment is a major milestone and our programme is built to guide them through every part of that transition, developing their football, supporting their education and helping them grow as people.
"We're excited to work with them and to see how they progress as they begin this next chapter at the Academy."
