Tottenham Hotspur‘s Pedro Porro can understand why some would like to see him at Barcelona.
The Spain international has been the first choice right-back since joining Tottenham from Sporting in January 2023.
He kept his place despite Tottenham changing multiple managers in recent years. This and his impressive performances resulted in claims of interest from top clubs, including Barcelona.
In April, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the La Liga winners identified the 26-year-old as a right-back target. Manchester City have also looked at him, but Porro didn’t consider leaving the north London club.
On June 14th, Roberto De Zerbi’s side offered him an improved contract until 2031. Last week, he thanked Spurs for backing and showing faith in him.
He said: “I’m very happy with the renewal because it came at an important moment in my career. I felt backed by the club, and that says a lot about them.”
Tottenham player on Barcelona move
Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo has published an interview with Pedro Porro to talk about the World Cup and Tottenham Hotspur.
The right-back plays behind Barcelona star Lamine Yamal for the national team, who have made it to the semi final.
Towards the end, the newspaper brings up the defender signing the new contract at Spurs last month.
Taking his World Cup form into account, journalist Ferran Martínez says he heard how well Porro would do at Barcelona.
Porro insists he earned Tottenham renewal
When responding to that, the former Sporting man explains why he is only thinking about Spurs and La Roja.
“Right now, as I said before, I’m very happy at Spurs because they’ve supported me,” he said.
“They’ve given me a renewal that I think I’ve earned. So, in that respect, I’m very happy there.”
“Regarding what you said about Barca and all that, people talk and want the best for their clubs.
“I’m focused right now on the national team and Tottenham. We’ll see what happens tomorrow, because you never know what can happen in football.
“Right now, I’m focused on the national team, my club, and the renewal. I’m very happy, as I said before. They’ve given me everything, and I’m grateful for that.”
Spain face France in the World Cup semi final on Tuesday and Pedro Porro is likely to start this key clash.
