Arsenal have seen off competition for the signature of Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Greek international was expected to join the Gunners if Leandro Trossard’s departure is finalised over the coming days, but speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said “another club” has tried to hijack the deal:
“Arsenal will immediately accelerate for a new winger. One of the names being mentioned internally, and Arsenal are in contact with his agent, is Christos Tzolis, the winger from Brugge.”
“Tzolis is keen on a move to Arsenal. There was another club trying to enter the race over the recent days, trying to understand if they can advance in negotiations to sign Tzolis from Club Brugge.”
“But the answer arrived from the player’s camp has been: ‘we are waiting for Arsenal’, and so is giving priority to the Gunners as a serious possibility to eventually replace Leandro Trossard.”
Tzolis’s asking price has been set
When Arsenal’s interest in the 24-year-old was first revealed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein last month, the journalist said that the forward was “gettable” for €40m (£34m).
It does look like the Premier League champions are likely to meet the valuation based on other reports in recent days.

What is the latest on Trossard’s Arsenal future?
The Gunners have accepted a €20m (£17.1m) bid from Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas, which comprises €18m (£15.4m) upfront and another €2m (£1.7m) in performance-related add-ons.
A 3 year contract with an option for another year has been offered to Trossard, but the Belgian international still needs to give his final approval to the move.
At the time of writing, Besiktas are said to be confident that the transfer will happen. If the switch does go ahead, an approach is expected to be made in short order for Tzolis as his replacement.
