Andoni Iraola has commented on Harvey Elliott’s situation at Liverpool, with the Spaniard speaking positively.

Eliott is back on Merseyside this summer with a point to prove, and a new boss could be exactly the fresh start he’s been waiting for.

Following a bruising loan spell at Aston Villa, the 23-year-old has returned ahead of schedule and is already putting in extra work in the build-up to pre-season.

His time at Villa was complicated by a pricey obligation-to-buy clause triggered at 10 league appearances, and he ultimately featured just nine times. As the season wore on, Elliott was frequently omitted from matchday squads, with his situation becoming more about contractual politics than football.

When quizzed on whether Elliott can still have a future at Anfield, Iraola said:

“Definitely! Harvey is here with us, I have seen him with the eagerness to show up, get super ready, he’ll have a chance in pre-season, we’ll need him and it’s a good sign.”

“I hope we can see him in a good place. I think Harvey comes from last season had to be difficult for him, strange situation, they couldn’t even play him and I think he uses this experience – the bad situation – to make himself even more eager to be a Liverpool player.”
