Andoni Iraola has faced the media for the first time as Liverpool head coach this morning at the AXA Training Centre.
With pre-season training properly kicking off on Tuesday, it’s the first real chance for supporters to hear directly from the Spaniard about his plans for the weeks and months ahead.
Plenty of senior players are due back at the AXA Training Centre as Liverpool step up their preparations, including the likes of Joe Gomez, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Dominik Szoboszlai and Kostas Tsimikas.
There is still plenty of transfer business to be done, and with the World Cup soon to be coming to an end, there is an expectation that Liverpool’s summer business will only ramp up once the showpiece event draws to a close.
In his first press conference as Liverpool boss, the Spaniard was asked about the club’s transfer plans for the upcoming window.
He revealed that the squad needs more options and that the club are working on these signings:
“We’ve signed two players already we need more, we know this. We are working on this. As a coach I want the players here from day one, selfishly, but we know it doesn’t work like this, we’re working hard for those signings.”
“I’m obviously trying to help also [with the signings].”
He added:
“I spoke with the players at the World Cup Especially the ones who are eliminated, enjoying their holidays, I didn’t want to disturb them while it was ongoing but I had some good talks. I used these weeks before training to talk with a lot of people who work here every day. They create a good environment so our players can perform to the maximum.”
