Liverpool's preseason has officially kicked off as players begin reporting for summer preparations.

However, a full squad is unlikely to assemble just yet, with several key figures still enjoying their post-World Cup rest. A number of players will be linking up with Andoni Iraola's squad in the United States once the team makes the transatlantic trip.

This will also include any new signings who might be brought to Anfield in the weeks ahead. There remains considerable transfer activity to complete as the Reds seek to make significant strides forward from last season. Here, Liverpool.com has rounded up some of the most pressing headlines as a crucial week in the summer transfer window gets underway.

Arsenal reach agreement

Liverpool may need to act swiftly if it harbors ambitions to secure Bruno Guimaraes this summer.

This comes after reports emerged that Arsenal has reached an agreement with the Brazilian midfielder on a five-year deal. The Reds are among the clubs linked with a move for Guimaraes this summer.

However, Mikel Arteta's club appears to have seized the initiative and is seemingly pushing ahead with its own pursuit. French publication L'Equipe has reported that Guimaraes, 28, has agreed to join Arsenal on a contract running until 2031.

Nevertheless, the considerable obstacle of persuading Newcastle to sanction a sale still remains. Newcastle is reluctant to lose its skipper, particularly following the departure of midfield partner Sandro Tonali to Tottenham.

Nevertheless, reports suggest a transfer could be agreed at around £76 million ($101 million). It is understood that Lyon, which sold Guimaraes to Newcastle back in January 2022, retains a 20 percent sell-on clause for the player.

Arsenal reportedly had a £55 million ($73 million) bid for Guimaraes rejected in June, yet the Gunners appear undeterred by the Magpies' rebuff. Liverpool has already been linked with several midfield additions this summer, though it is thought that an existing squad member may need to be offloaded before Iraola's side could mount any late pursuit of Guimaraes.

Jones addresses speculation

Curtis Jones has emerged as one potential candidate to vacate a midfield berth this summer.

However, the academy graduate appears to have indicated he has no intention of leaving, responding publicly to a recent transfer report. More specifically, he appeared to dismiss suggestions of a move to Nottingham Forest.

Jones, 25, took to social media to respond to a post claiming he was set to put pen to paper at Forest, posting a skeptical raised-eyebrow emoji. The post appeared to be a clear indication that Jones remains unaware of any such transfer.

Furthermore, his willingness to make such a declaration on a public platform could suggest he's unhappy with the speculation linking him to a departure from Anfield.

Nevertheless, it remains entirely possible the Reds will seek to offload Jones, who has now entered the final year of his deal. Yet it seems Forest are not as near to securing a transfer as certain reports have implied.
