Morgan Rogers is Arsenal’s number one transfer target football.london understands. The player is believed to be keen on the move, but any such agreement with Aston Villa remains a considerable way off.
Rogers’ participation in the World Cup with England is another obstacle for Arsenal, and, as with Bruno Guimaraes, there is an expectation that any move for the midfielder will only occur after the tournament, despite Thomas Tuchel's openness to allowing moves to happen. England takes on Argentina in Wednesday’s semi-final and, if successful, will face either France or Spain in the final on July 19.
Rogers has not been a key starter under Tuchel, but was critical to their progression to the semi-final. His long-range strike forced the error from the Norwegian keeper, allowing Jude Bellingham to storm in and score the winner.

Rogers has been one of the Premier League’s most impressive players these past two seasons. The World Cup performances, until then, had done little, however, to boost his allure.
There remain many who are very sceptical of Rogers and whether he is the right option for Arsenal, particularly for the left wing. And on the surface, that makes sense, Rogers is ostensively a central attacking midfielder, at least that’s where the majority of his games have come from.
That said, claims he is more dangerous there and not on the left are seriously flawed. Rogers played plenty for Villa last season in both roles and did indeed score more goals (8) and added more assists (8) while playing in the middle.
However, there is one key aspect of the data which is being misinterpreted. Rogers played 17 games on the left, scoring five goals and adding four assists, but he played 1361 minutes in the role compared to the 2855 minutes centrally.
What this means is that, centrally, Rogers scored a goal every 356.9 minutes and added an assist every 356.9 minutes. But on the left, he would score a goal every 272.2 minutes and add an assist every 340.3 minutes.

If you needed the evidence to support the theory, Rogers is more threatening and a bigger goal threat when playing off the left, then there it is. But most importantly, it is his versatility and success in multiple roles that make him a player Arsenal might indeed be willing to drop a club record fee for.
Options are everything, and Rogers offers Arteta plenty more. Add Bruno Guimaraes to the fold too, and the title-winning Gunners have one of the most imposing rosters of midfielders and attackers in the sport.
