Xabi Alonso has revealed that he has spoken to Enzo Fernandez and wants him to stay at Chelsea next season.
Fernandez has expressed his desire to leave Chelsea this summer, and while the Blues do not want to sell, they have placed a £120million price tag on the Argentine midfielder.
Real Madrid is said to be Fernandez’s dream destination, though the Spanish giants have publicly denied their interest in the 25-year-old.
Fernandez is currently away with Argentina at the 2026 World Cup and is set to start for Lionel Scaloni’s side when they take on England in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
It remains unclear whether Fernandez will remain in west London next season, but speaking at his unveiling as Chelsea manager, Alonso said he wanted to keep the 2022 World Cup winner.
Asked if he wanted Fernandez to remain at Stamford Bridge next season, Alonso simply said: “Yes.”

He continued: “We have spoken. But as you can understand, what we have spoken (about) it remains private.”
For now, Fernandez is focused on the World Cup, which concludes this weekend, before taking a break ahead of the new campaign.
It remains unclear whether Fernandez will return to Chelsea, but Alonso will be keen to have him and Cole Palmer in his team next term.
On Palmer, he described the Englishman, who was part of the first batch of players to return for pre-season last week, as a “special talent” and said he would be central to his plans.
“We have had a few trainings already, and from the first day you can see he is a special player, it is not easy to have one of those (players), and you can notice his quality, how he is able to play the right decision in the right spot.

“So I am happy that he has come in a good mood, in a good mindset to have a great season, and we are really looking forward to get the best from him.
“If we are able to build a strong team with the proper stability to find the key players, for sure, Cole is going to be one of those key players in the attacking part.”
