“I don’t think” – Leeds United star makes honest Chelsea transfer claim

Leeds United left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson insists he’s happy at Elland Road as his form attracts the attention of Chelsea.

A couple of exits have already been confirmed from Elland Road, and the hope for Daniel Farke is that the remaining core of his first team stays intact.

It’s worrying, then, that Gabriel Gudmundsson is being linked with a move away, namely to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea.

Chelsea target Gabriel Gudmundsson is happy at Leeds United, dubs Whites fans best in England

Back in June, it was reported that Chelsea are in the market to sign a replacement for Marc Cucurella. On their shortlist of options is Leeds’ flying wing-back Gudmundsson.

Leeds have the Swede tied down until 2029 after his £10million move from Lille a year ago, and are unlikely to be willing to do business.

The left-back himself has acknowledged Chelsea’s interest in a recent interview. However, he’s also insisting how happy he is at Elland Road, supported by the best fans in England.

“I haven’t had a focus on it because there has been so much with Leeds, the World Cup and then I have become a father now so I have really zoned out from that part of football,” he told Hallandsposten. “But it’s nice that they see me as an alternative and it’s a sign that something good has been done, then we’ll see what happens but I’m happy where I am.

“Everything is so professional. We have enjoyed ourselves since the first second we got there so we are very happy with the choice and are looking forward to what is to come.

“Hand on heart I can say that the Leeds fans are the best in England and they have supported us in a really good way this season. I don’t think you understand how big the club is until you are in it.”

Leeds United must source cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson with new left-back signing

Forget about Gudmundsson leaving Leeds, we need someone to cover him so we have reliable backup on the left.

I love James Justin and he’s a tremendously versatile option. But, whenever Gudmundsson wasn’t available, we struggled to generate the same threat down our left, because Justin is right-footed and can’t get to the by-line nearly as often.

We’ve been linked with free agent Matt Targett recently, and I wouldn’t be against it. He’s got plenty of Premier League experience, wouldn’t be too fussed about being a backup option, and just had a strong season with Middlesbrough.

Gudmundsson is a brilliant player, and we cannot afford to lose him. So, the club need to cover him with stronger backup depth.
