New Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has provided some quotes that will be music to the ears of Reds supporters, having been asked about the club’s transfer activity.
The Spaniard conducted his first press conference on Monday, speaking well at the AXA Training Centre and outlining the kind of football team he wants the fans to enjoy:
“I would like to give them a team that they can feel proud of. I think football, and especially Liverpool, for me is about connecting, connecting with the people, connecting with our supporters. I’ve been in the other side at Anfield. I’ve experienced, I always say, the goal that [Federico] Chiesa scored in the first game of the past season, where you can feel this stadium – and I would love to have this every game we play.
“And it has to come from us from inside the pitch and we have to be a team that works hard, [is] intense, aggressive, vertical so everyone can be identified, everyone can feel comfortable supporting this team.”
Iraola was also asked about transfers, and in a six-word update, he said exactly what the supporters will want to hear ahead of the summer transfer window: “The club is working on this.”
A promising start for Andoni Iraola at Liverpool
Iraola spoke so impressively about a number of topics, coming across as a classy figure who is excited to get started at Liverpool, and who wants to entertain the masses.
He will know more than anyone that new signings are essential in that respect, and he has to be backed by FSG in the transfer market, with a host of new faces coming in across various positions.
Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz have added quality at centre-back and out wide, respectively, but a Mohamed Salah replacement is essential, while a central midfielder is also a priority.
Adding depth at right-back and centre forward is important, too, and hopefully, Liverpool’s squad will look capable of challenging for the Premier League title once the window is closed.
