Liverpool have announced that they have signed a new goalkeeper to join the squad. Khiara Keating will be playing for them in the 26/27 season.
The keeper has signed a permanent contract with the Reds. It comes after a long career with Manchester City, having come through their academy system.
Career So Far
Keating began her youth career with Manchester City, joining their academy in 2015. She then made her senior debut in the 21/22 campaign, contributing to a 5-0 league win against Leicester City. During the 23/24 season, she achieved twelve clean sheets across 29 appearances.

However, her status diminished over the final two years of her deal following the signing of Ayaka Yamashita, who continued to be prefered following the appointment of Andree Jeglertz upon his appointment last summer.
Across her entire time at City, the English international secured a total of 65 appearances. However, now that her contract has ended, she has chosen to make a move to Liverpool despite initial reports she had one year left on her deal.
International Career
After progressing through the youth squads, her senior Lionesses’ callup came in October 2023 in a match against Brazil. This international recognition at a young age highlighted her ambition and determination.

Kheating was named in Sarina Wiegman’s squad that won the Euros in Switzerland in 2025. However, with Mary Earps and later Hannah Hampton in the frame, the 22-year-old had to wait until after the tournament to finally be handed her debut in a friendly against Brazil.
A Move To Liverpool
Now that her contract has ended at Manchester City, Keating has opted to join the Reds. It comes after their failure to retain keeper Jennifer Falk following her successful loan spell.

It has been reported that the 22-year-old will join the club on a permanent basis with a three-year deal signed. It sees her reunited with head coach Gareth Taylor, after working together at City.
In a Q&A with the club, the goalkeeper spoke of her excitement to be joining Liverpool:

“I think everyone knows Liverpool worldwide. It’s such a big club and I think the women’s team is striving for greatness. I think the style of football that they play, they actually try to play – which suits me and my position. I think they’re just going in the right direction and [it is]a project that I want to be part of.”
A Good Choice For Liverpool?
After failing to convert Jennifer Falk’s contract to a permanent one, this signing was a crucial one for the Reds. It is a deal that they have been rightfully chasing.
However, after a difficult last season, experience is something that Liverpool should be chasing. Although Keating has significant WSL playing time, she still has space to develop.
It would be promising to see an older, more experienced player sign for the Reds. This could help them have a more successful season amongst an ever-growing WSL.
