Bruno Guimaraes has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders since joining Newcastle United from Lyon for £35 million in January 2022.
The Brazilian played a key role in Newcastle’s rise, helping them avoid relegation before becoming a central figure in their recent success, including their EFL Cup triumph in the 2024/25 season.

He enjoyed another impressive campaign in 2025/26, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists in 41 appearances.
His performances have attracted interest from Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool. However, Newcastle have made it clear that Guimaraes will only leave for a significant fee, with the club valuing him at around £100million.
Liverpool explored a potential move earlier this summer, but their interest did not progress beyond talks with the player’s representatives.
According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are considering whether to continue their pursuit after initially believing the midfielder could be available for around £50million.
Mikel Arteta remains a huge admirer of Guimaraes, but Arsenal have been surprised by Newcastle’s firm stance. The Magpies have no obligation to sell, with no release clause in the midfielder’s contract, which runs until 2028 with an option for a further year.
Arsenal’s proposed package, including add-ons, has not exceeded £60million, falling well short of Newcastle’s valuation. The club also want any fee paid largely upfront rather than through bonuses.
Guimaraes is believed to be open to a move and has informed Newcastle of his desire to explore the possibility, but he respects the club’s position. He will only push for an exit if Arsenal make an offer closer to Newcastle’s demands.
Despite their financial strength, Arsenal are also mindful of squad cost restrictions. Signing Guimaraes would require a fee of at least £80million, along with wages believed to be around £300,000 per week.
The Gunners are aware it would represent a significant investment for a player approaching his 30s, and they respect Newcastle’s determination to keep hold of their captain.
Newcastle expect Arsenal could submit an official bid in an attempt to increase pressure on the club, but they remain firm that they will not consider offers that fall short of their valuation.
That stance has been repeatedly communicated to Guimaraes’ representatives and the intermediaries involved in discussions.
For now, the Brazil international is expected to return for pre-season training later this month, with his future still unresolved.
