Baker Mayfield had a terrible 2025 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The franchise finished with an 8-9 record and finished second in the NFC South division. They failed to win the division for the first time in three years, and missed the playoffs.
Currently, the players are enjoying the offseason period, doing various activities. Mayfield has recently said something personal about his relationship.
Baker Mayfield knew he will be together forever with wife after first date
Mayfield is married to Emily Wilkinson, and their relationship first blossomed in late 2017 when a mutual friend tried to set them up. Emily was a patient coordinator in Los Angeles at the time, and had graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She initially hesitated to meet up with Mayfield , who was the star quarterback at the University of Oklahoma, as she previously said, “I was assuming he’d be the typical playboy athlete.”

He pursued her persistently, and when she declined to give her number, he repeatedly followed and unfollowed her on Instagram and attempted to message her without success. Eventually, she relented and met for lunch the day before Oklahoma’s Rose Bowl game against Georgia on January 1, 2018.
On that first date, Mayfield focused on asking questions about Emily, her family, and her life rather than talking about himself or football. Both later said they felt an immediate connection. Emily texted her mom and sister afterward that she thought she might marry him. Mayfield told friends the same. Later, she said, “We haven’t really been apart since. It was love at first sight”.
Just three days later after the lunch, he moved in with Emily and her three brothers in Los Angeles following the Rose Bowl loss. He proposed six months later, and got married July 6, 2019, at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California. Their story is now being documented with a new series.
Baker Mayfield and wife feature in new Netflix series
The whole story of their love affair has been described in Netflix’s Quarterback series. It is a documentary which follows quarterbacks throughout the NFL season. Both the league and Netflix are involved in making the series. Mayfield will be featured in the newest one which Quarterbacks Season 3.
It is scheduled to release on July 14, 2026. A recent trailer was released which shows the pair talk about their love story, how they met, and how their love blossomed. As he made multiple moves in his career, his wife stayed by him. They welcomed daughter Kova Jade in April 2024 and announced they are expecting a son in 2026.
Baker Mayfield will now prepare for the 2026 season, and will be looking forward to being featured in his own series.
