The 2026 Washington Commanders have been looking to help the team take a step in the right direction. They are looking to get the offense going and having someone step up to be a legitimate pass-catcher alongside Terry McLaurin and Treylon Burks as the team’s WR3. Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton wrote an article where he discussed [second-year wide receivers who can break out](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25453289-5-2nd-year-wrs-primed-break-out-2026-nfl-season) in the 2026 season. One of the players Moton highlighted is Washington Commanders’ Jaylin Lane. Below is what Moton wrote:
> “As a rookie, Lane played a minimal role on offense, recording 16 catches for 225 yards while pn the field for just 37 percent of the snaps. However, Lane showcased his playmaking ability on special teams, returning 23 punts for 314 yards and two touchdowns and three kicks for 56 yards. If the Commanders find ways to get him the ball in space, he could rack up big gains in the passing game as well.

For now, Lane is in competition with Treylon Burks, who hasn’t played up to his 2022 first-round pedigree, Luke McCaffrey and rookie third-rounder Antonio Williams for the No. 2 receiver spot. The Virginia Tech product did not see the field too much in his rookie season, but the fourth-rounder has experienced the speed of the NFL in order to take that next step for the Washington Commanders in 2026. With Deebo Samuel, Zach Ertz, and Chris Moore all no longer on the roster, there are a lot of targets up for grabs without three of the top five players in terms of receiving yards for the franchise last year.
It will be intriguing to see if Jaylin Lane can take that leap in his sophomore season in the NFL.
