'Delighted' - Newcastle United transfer for one of 'England's brightest young talents' imminent …

Newcastle United transfers: Kyran Thompson is set to join Newcastle United’s academy set-up after leaving Arsenal.

The 16-year-old winger has agreed to join Newcastle’s academy on an initial scholarship deal but can sign a professional contract once he turns 17 in September. It comes after he attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.

But speculation over an imminent move to Newcastle was fuelled by Thompson himself on Instagram as he posted an image at Newcastle International Airport.

Thompson is an England under-17s international and scored three goals in 26 appearances for Arsenal in the Under-18s Premier League last season. Arguably, his moment of the season came in the UEFA Youth League as he grabbed a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over Bayern Munich.

The Magpies previously tried to sign Thompson back in 2024, but the winger ended up joining Arsenal instead after leaving West Ham United’s academy set-up.

Two years on and United have finally lured the player to Tyneside, where he is set to join up with Chris Moore’s Under-18s squad for the 2026/27 campaign.

Thompson’s new agency, Truth Sports, described the youngster as ‘one of England’s brightest young talents’ in an Instagram post announcing him as their latest client.

“We are delighted to announce @kyran_thompson, England U17 international, as the newest member of the Truth Sports family,” the post read.

“Kyran is one of England’s brightest young talents, and we are excited to be part of his journey as he continues to develop both on and off the pitch. We look forward to supporting your growth, maximising every opportunity, and helping you reach your full potential at the highest level. Welcome to the family, Kyran. The journey starts now.”
