Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola can revive Stefan Bajcetic’s Anfield career.
Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that he’s in negotiations with the Reds to secure an exit this summer. The Liverpool player has options in La Liga where Sevilla, Rayo Vallecano and Elche CF are keen.
The defensive midfielder joined the Premier League side’s academy from Celta Vigo in 2020.
Two years later, he made debut for Liverpool’s first team, but injuries restricted the 21-year-old’s appearances.
The Spaniard suffered two serious injuries in 2022 and 2023 before taking another big blow in April 2025. He underwent hamstring surgery, forcing him to miss last season.
Iraola will be key for Liverpool stay
Radio Marca now claim Andoni Iraola can offer Stefan Bajcetic a new lifeline at Liverpool.
They state ‘Iraola likes him a lot’, and he intends to hold on to his compatriot for now.
The new manager wants to take a closer look at the defensive midfielder during pre-season training, before making the final decision.
Should the former AFC Bournemouth boss decide to bet on his compatriot, then the player will sign a new contract with the Reds.
If Bajcetic fails to convince Iraola, then the Merseyside club will likely to sell him in this window. Should that happen, Radio Marca insists he wants to return to Spain.
Our take: Why Liverpool will wait to please Iraola
Stefan Bajcetic has less than a year left on his contract, and Transfermarkt value him at €4m.
The Reds are unlikely to collect a decent fee for him, considering his injury history and that he hasn’t made a competitive appearance for more than a year.
Therefore, Liverpool can wait a few more weeks to find out Andoni Iraola’s stance, before deciding to offer a renewal or part ways with him.
