Roma launch loan-to-buy bid for Chelsea’s Garnacho but Blues seek permanent sale

Roma have submitted an opening offer to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea, according to reports in Italy.

Chelsea are willing to entertain offers for Garnacho this summer, just 12 months on from his arrival from Manchester United.

Garnacho made 22 starts last season across all competitions, and registered eight goals and four assists. Despite that, Chelsea are willing to sanction his sale if their £42.7m valuation is met. The Blues paid £40m to sign Garnacho last summer.

According to Sky Italy, Roma have submitted an initial loan deal for the Argentina international. The Serie A side have proposed an initial one-year loan for a fee of £4.3m, with an option to sign Garnacho for £30m. The purchase clause would become mandatory if certain clauses are met during the winger's spell in Italy.

Chelsea are understood to prefer a guaranteed permanent exit for the 22-year-old, who has interest from clubs in Europe and the Premier League. Napoli are long-standing suitors and have again been linked.

He is one of several options that Roma are considering this summer, as the Italian side prepare to return to the Champions League next season after a eight-year absence. Roma are also among the clubs considering West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville.

Garnacho could be one of several sales for Chelsea this summer as the West Londoners rebuild under new head coach Xabi Alonso.

Marc Cucurella, Tyrique George and Andrey Santos have all departed on permanent deals, while Trevoh Chalobah has interest from Como and Inter Milan.

Chelsea have brought in Marco Palestra from Atalanta in a £47m transfer, with the right-back becoming Alonso's first signing. Geovany Quenda's pre-agreed move from Sporting CP has also been finalised.
