Jorge Mendes key in Roma’s move for Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho

[As reported by _Il Messaggero_, via _LaRoma24_](https://laroma24.it/mercato-mercato/calciomercato-roma-il-chelsea-ha-scaricato-garnacho-ce-lofferta-giallorossa), Chelsea have rejected Roma’s opening bid for Alejandro Garnacho but are keen to offload him this summer.

New Blues boss Xabi Alonso has made it clear that the Argentina international is not in his plans, prompting further from the market, especially Roma, who have been monitoring him for weeks.

After the collapse of the Mason Greenwood deal, Roma are even more keen on securing a forward and already made an offer for Garnacho, which Chelsea have rejected.

The hierarchy at Stamford Bridge want to sell Garnacho outright this summer, while Roma’s improved offer is expected to be an initial €5m loan with an option to make the move permanent for €35 million next summer, a clause that may become mandatory is certain number of appearances and club goals are met.

The 22-year-old’s £110,000-per-week Chelsea contract is set to run until June 2032.

[As further reported by Gianluca Di Marzio](https://x.com/DiMarzio/status/2076941758361895051), super-agent Jorge Mendes is in talks to convince Clearlake co-founder Behdad Eghbali to accept Roma’s offer for Garnacho.

Chelsea understandably want to move on Garnacho, but if a sufficiently lucrative loan deal can be reached, it is one they may want to consider.

It is not unusual for mainland Europe clubs to go for loan-then-buy deals where the buy part of the equation is all but a formality. Case in point, in Serie A itself, Juventus loaned in LoÏs Openda from Leipzig last summer, a deal that would become permanent as long as they finished in the top ten, which despite their middling campaign is a feat they would have actively had to work towards to achieve.

If such as-good-as-done conditions are placed in Roma’s next loan offer for Garnacho, Chelsea can consider their young forward as good as sold. Not having to put up funds for him his summer would also allow Roma to strengthen elsewhere, while for Chelsea it will lock in a price tag the Italian club will not be to renege on in case Garnacho endures another underwhelming campaign.
