**Liverpool are set to ‘top up’ Arne Slot’s salary as he eyes a return to management.**
Slot has been out of work since [his two-year Anfield tenure was abruptly ended in late May](https://www.clickliverpool.com/sport/liverpool-fc/65692-arne-slot-sacked-as-liverpool-head-coach/) after the club narrowly scraped a Champions League qualification spot.
The Dutchman was touted for a series of vacant positions including at AC Milan and Fulham, who are understood to have made an unsuccessful approach to him.
However Slot could now be in line for a move into international football as a potential successor to Ronald Koeman in the battle to become the Netherlands’ head coach.
Koeman announced his resignation from the Oranje’s top job for a second time after their World Cup last-32 exit to Morocco, clearing the way for the 47-year-old’s hiring.
Slot’s stock in his homeland remains strong despite the chastening end to his time with the Reds, where he won the Premier League during a first season in charge.
Although he faces competition from Louis van Gaal, who is eyeing a fourth spell with the national team, reports suggest Slot’s financial situation could aid his case.
De Telegraaf claim that Anfield chiefs are still paying the remainder of the former head coach’s three-year contract which stands at just shy of £7 million annually.
That would allow Slot to negotiate a cut-price contract with the Dutch FA as his former employers will subsidise his salary for the first 12 months of his tenure.
However the arrangement would not apply if Slot took another Premier League job during the period covered by his original contract agreed in May 2024.
If appointed, the move would mirror a situation Koeman himself enjoyed in taking the Holland job in 2018 just months after he had been sacked by Everton.
