Young winger Jesse Derry is excited about the challenges ahead after signing a new contract with Chelsea before joining Sporting Lisbon on loan for the 2026/27 season.
The 19-year-old moved to Chelsea from Crystal Palace last summer and enjoyed an impressive first year in west London.
In addition to helping our Under-21s finish top of the Premier League 2 table, Derry played his first three games in senior football. A debut in the 4-0 FA Cup win at Hull City was followed by another substitute appearance in that competition, then a first Chelsea start at Stamford Bridge against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
After that strong campaign, the teenager has now signed a new contract with the Blues, keeping him with the club until at least 2032.
‘It’s a dream come true, obviously, to commit my future to such a big club like Chelsea,’ said Derry, speaking at Cobham after signing his new contract. You can watch the interview in full exclusively below.
‘You don’t even think about it, but when it comes it’s the best feeling ever. Now I’m just so excited for what is to come.
‘The club’s got a massive project. Everyone wants to get back to winning stuff and I’d love to be part of that in the future.
‘After having a little sniff of playing for the first team I couldn’t have thought of anywhere else I’d rather be for my future. So it was a no-brainer.’
