Chicago Bears 2026 Training Camp Preview: Running Back

***CHICAGO, Ill.,***— The Chicago Bears will report to training camp in late July, beginning the franchise's second season under head coach Ben Johnson. After winning the NFC North last season, the Bears will look to repeat as division champs, a feat that hasn't been accomplished in two decades for the Bears.

Running back is one position that will feature a high level of continuity for the Bears. Veteran D'Andre Swift returns for his third season with 2025 seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai as his running mate. Both players will be joined by Salvon Ahmed, Coleman Bennett, Brittain Brown, and Roschon Johnson. In other words, there will be plenty of reps to go around in training camp for everyone in the room.

Last season, Swift entered week 1 as the undisputed starter. Throughout the season, Monangai continued to emerge as an excellent situational player, proving that he's a fit for what Johnson does on offense and that he can be a playmaker when called upon. Beyond the first two names, Ahmed, Bennett, Brown, and Johnson will battle it out as the Bears try and gain some clarity regarding RB3.

The duo of Swift and Monangai combined for 1,870 rushing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 102 first downs last season, proving to be a formidable duo that was a catalyst for the Bears on the ground. As they enter year two, they'll look to put up similar numbers, potentially even taking a step forward with each player putting up 1000-yard seasons.

For Ahmed, Bennett, Brown, and Johnson, the goal will be proving that they can take on the role of RB3 in the Bears offense while being an impact player on special teams. Last season, Brown and Johnson played sparingly on offense and instead, found ways to contribute in the third phase of the game for the Bears.

As we get set for training camp in a few weeks, let's continue our preview series with the running back position led by Swift and Monangai. Make sure to check back with the Bear Report for complete coverage of training camp.
