Trent Sieg was signed by the Raiders 9/12/2018 after new high priced free agent Andrew DePaolo blew out an ACL. He was a steady deep snapper for the Raiders thru 2022, snapping for then new kicker Daniel Carlson and later for punter/ holder AJ Cole (since 2019).
Trent was signed as a UDFA out of Colorado State University in April 2018 by the Baltimore Ravens but was waived at cutdown. DePaolo’s injury in the Raiders’ first game necessitated the Raiders holding tryouts for long snappers and they signed Sieg. Sieg did not have DePaolo’s velocity but was a consistent and accurate deep snapper who rarely made mistakes. In preseason 2019 the Raiders decided to keep Sieg, who was on a minimum contract, over the more expensive DePaolo and admitted the latter may have been better but Sieg was plenty good at a better price.
After 3 years as the Raiders long snapper, Sieg earned a contract extension in the March 2021. Sieg was the long snapper for Daniel Carlson’s excellent 2021 season which was also a breakout season for AJ Cole. However, after a slightly off year in 2022 new Special Teams Coordinator Tom McMahon brought in his own guy, Jacob Bobenmoyer, who was faster covering punts than Sieg, but Sieg was signed 3 days later by the Cowboys and has been their long snapper ever since.
