It was a very busy offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They hired a new head coach for the first time in two decades and added about 30 new faces to the roster through trade, free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft.
Ahead of the start of training camp in two weeks in Latrobe, the roster looks pretty good top to bottom. There are few — if any — holes. Depth is sound across the board.
Yet for Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, there is one trade the Steelers should consider before the season starts. It’s about adding more talent at offensive tackle.
Specifically, Moton wants to see the Steelers trade a 2027 mid-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for veteran tackle Walker Little.
“The Steelers have options at left tackle while Broderick Jones recovers from a neck injury. They can slide right tackle Troy Fautanu to the left side, as the team did during the spring, or attempt to fast-track rookie first-rounder Max Iheanachor’s ascension into a starting role,” Moton writes of the one trade the Steelers should make. “General manager Omar Khan should consider a third option: trading for Little, who lost the Jaguars’ starting left tackle position to Cole Van Lanen last season.
“Little has 39 career starts in five campaigns. He could man the Steelers’ vacant offensive tackle spot until Iheanachor is ready to take the field.”
Little is an interesting name to consider, but Moton’s reasoning makes no sense at all.
The Steelers moved Troy Fautanu to left tackle, putting him back in his natural position where he played in college. They made that move quickly in the offseason to lock down that side of the offensive line, moving guard Mason McCormick with him, too.
While the Steelers did spend a first-round pick on Arizona State’s Max Iheanachor, he’s a right tackle only at this point, having played 30-plus games there in college. He’s not an option at left tackle and is instead focused on battling it out with veteran Dylan Cook for the starting right tackle job in training camp.
Depth is decent, too, as Cook could be the swing tackle if Iheanachor wins the starting right tackle job. Veteran Jack Driscoll also returns, while Broderick Jones’ health remains up in the air. If Jones is healthy, he could be a terrific swing tackle for Pittsburgh in 2026.
There’s no real need to trade for Little.
Little played 967 snaps last season for Jacksonville, finishing with a grade of 62.7 overall from Pro Football Focus, allowing 47 pressures and nine sacks. In his career he’s played 2,591 snaps which came primarily at left tackle, though he has snaps at left and right guard and right tackle in his career, too.
Still, it’s a silly move to say the Steelers should consider.
Elsewhere, Moton writes that the Green Bay Packers should trade a Day 2 pick in 2027 to the Steelers for outside linebacker Alex Highsmith.
After extending Nick Herbig this offseason, the Steelers have a ton of money tied up into their top three pass rushers. Highsmith is in the final year of his contract and he’s struggled to stay healthy the last two years. However, the Steelers don’t appear interested in even considering moving Highsmith.
Nor should they.
But if a team came calling offering an early Day 2 pick at the trade deadline and Highsmith is healthy? You’d have to consider it. Not right now, though.
