Arsenal announce sale of star forward to European powerhouse

Leandro Trossard is on the verge of ending his three-and-a-half-year spell at Arsenal after the club confirmed it has reached an agreement with Besiktas over his permanent transfer.

The Premier League champions announced that a deal has been agreed with the Turkish giants, with the Belgian international now in Istanbul and set to undergo a medical and complete the remaining formalities.

The transfer is expected to be finalised once those processes are completed.

The agreement follows weeks of negotiations after Besiktas made Trossard one of their priority targets for the summer transfer window.

The package is understood to be worth around €20 million, consisting of an initial €18m fee with a further €2m in performance-related add-ons.

The 31-year-old is expected to sign a three-year contract running until 2029, with the option of an additional year.

Trossard leaves Arsenal after playing an important role in one of the club’s most successful periods in recent history.

Having arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023, the Belgium international quickly established himself as one of Mikel Arteta’s most reliable attacking options because of his versatility and consistency.

Equally comfortable on either wing, as a false nine or in an attacking midfield role, Trossard became a trusted member of Arteta’s squad across domestic and European competitions.

He made 50 appearances in all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign, scoring eight goals and registering 11 assists as Arsenal ended their 22-year wait for a Premier League title before reaching the UEFA Champions League final.

One of his most significant contributions came during the closing weeks of the league season, when his winner against West Ham United helped maintain Arsenal’s momentum in the title race.

Trossard also impressed on international duty this summer.

The experienced forward started all six of Belgium’s matches at the World Cup, scoring twice and providing three assists as his country reached the quarter-finals before exiting the competition.

Overall, he leaves north London having made 174 appearances for Arsenal, contributing 36 goals and 34 assists after his £27 million move from Brighton.

His departure comes as Arsenal continue reshaping their attacking options ahead of the new season.

The Gunners have been linked with several wide forwards throughout the window as Arteta looks to add greater depth and competition in the final third.

While Arsenal lose an experienced and dependable performer, Trossard departs having played a key part in delivering the club’s first league title since 2004.
