Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has confirmed the club is assessing the future of winger Alejandro Garnacho, admitting he remains a player of interest as the Blues weigh up whether to sanction the Argentine’s departure just one year after his arrival from Manchester United.
Speaking to reporters during Chelsea’s pre-season preparations, Alonso acknowledged Garnacho’s quality but suggested a final decision on the attacker’s future has yet to be made
“The situation is we have spoken with the sports directors, and there’s an interest in him from other clubs. So let’s see how it develops, but hopefully it finishes in the best possible ways for all parties,” Alonso told reporters, in comments carried by The Telegraph.
Reports have linked several European clubs with an interest in Garnacho after a mixed debut season at Stamford Bridge following his high-profile switch from Manchester United.
Despite showing flashes of his undeniable ability, the Argentine found regular starting opportunities difficult to secure in a competitive Chelsea squad.
CHELSEA continue to evaluate options across several positions as Alonso looks to assemble a squad capable of challenging for domestic and European honours. Outgoings are also expected before the transfer window closes as the club balances competition for places with opportunities for players seeking regular first-team football.
