Liverpool’s interest in Bradley Barcola refuses to disappear.
According to David Ornstein, the Reds remain strong admirers of the Paris Saint-Germain winger, who is high on the club’s shortlist should they decide to strengthen their attacking options this summer.
PSG would prefer to keep the France international, but with Barcola entering the final two years of his contract and keen to become a regular starter, the situation could yet develop once France’s World Cup campaign comes to an end.
For me, there is one simple reason why I’d love to see him at Liverpool.
His pace.
A Nightmare for Defenders
There are quick players.
Then there are players like Bradley Barcola.
His acceleration is frightening.
Whether he is running beyond defenders, carrying the ball in transition or attacking one-on-one situations, Barcola has the kind of pace that immediately changes games.
Liverpool have always been at their best when they possess attackers capable of stretching defences.
Barcola would give the Reds exactly that.
Perfect for Iraola’s Football
Everything we know about Andoni Iraola suggests Barcola would fit his style perfectly.
The Liverpool head coach wants his attackers to:
Press aggressively.
Attack space.
Carry the ball forward.
Run directly at defenders.
Barcola excels in all of those areas.
Rather than slowing attacks down, he constantly looks to drive Liverpool forward at speed.
That could make him devastating in an Iraola system built around quick transitions.
More Than Just Speed
While his pace attracts most of the attention, Barcola offers far more than raw athleticism.
He also possesses:
Excellent dribbling ability.
Intelligent movement.
Strong decision-making in the final third.
Creativity.
Goals.
At just 24 years old, he is entering the stage of his career where potential begins to become consistent elite-level production.
That makes him an extremely attractive option.
The Salah Successor?
Replacing Mohamed Salah has never been about finding another player who scores exactly the same number of goals.
It is about finding someone capable of becoming the next attacking star.
Barcola has the profile to do exactly that.
He would bring something Liverpool have occasionally lacked over the past year:
Explosive pace that forces defenders to retreat.
That alone creates space for players like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak to operate.
It Won’t Be Easy
Of course, signing Barcola would be far from straightforward.
PSG still want to keep him.
Arsenal are also believed to admire him.
And any transfer would almost certainly require a significant fee.
Ornstein reports that discussions are not currently advanced, with PSG unwilling to distract the player while France remain involved in the World Cup.
That means any real movement is likely to come later in the summer.
One Signing That Would Excite Me
Liverpool have been linked with plenty of talented wingers over recent months.
Yan Diomande.
Yankuba Minteh.
Pedro Neto.
Each would improve the squad.
But if I had to choose one, Bradley Barcola would be right at the top of my list.
His pace alone would transform Liverpool’s attack.
Add his technical quality and potential into the equation, and it is easy to understand why the club continue to monitor him so closely.
If Liverpool could somehow bring Bradley Barcola to Anfield, I genuinely believe supporters would be watching one of the most exciting attacking trios in Europe.
And under Andoni Iraola’s high-intensity football, I think Barcola could become an absolute superstar.
