Liverpool’s apparent willingness to help Arne Slot financially so he can take the Netherlands job, has led to obvious eyebrow raising in his home country.
René van der Gijp asks the obvious question today, with Voetbal Primeur relaying his comments from Vandaag Inside.
Liverpool help
Arne Slot is currently the leading candidate to take charge of the Dutch national team following Ronald Koeman’s departure earlier this month. He exited following the Oranje’s disappointing showing at the World Cup.
Slot is the leading candidate thanks to also being a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. And reports in England and the Netherlands have made it clear that he may be open to the position.
Furthermore, reports in both countries have explained that Liverpool would be willing to help facilitate the deal.
According to De Telegraaf, the Reds are reportedly willing to continue paying Slot part of his multi-million salary if he signs for the Dutch national team this summer. There is, it seems, a willingness to help their title winning coach following an amicable split this summer.
Why would Liverpool help?
René van der Gijp, though, can’t get his head around the idea.
“Why on earth? Why would they do that?” he questioned on Vandaag Inside. “That would be nice of them. That amounts to about eight million or thereabouts.” He, simply, can’t imagine the Premier League side going along with such a plan.
Voetbal Primeur, though, argue the case a little more. They say that Liverpool are happy with how Arne Slot handled his dismissal this summer. That is why they’re playing ball.
That situation would be different if he were moving elsewhere in the Premier League, especially for a rival. But those in charge at Anfield do not see ‘much of a threat’ in him taking charge of the Dutch national team.
