The New York Jets finished with a 3-14 record last season. Once again, New York missed the postseason and haven’t made it since the 2010 NFL season. The Jets are focusing toward the future. There were a lot of moves this franchise made at the trade deadline last season. One of those moves was trading for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and acquiring draft capital from the Indianapolis Colts for cornerback Sauce Gardner.

Mitchell will be entering his third NFL season. During the 2025 NFL season with the Colts and the Jets, he caught 33 passes for 453 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 13.7 yards per reception. Mitchell was targeted 74 times. He is only 23 years old and has a lot of promise in his future.
New York Jets Insider Predicts that WR Adonai Mitchell Will Breakout in His Third NFL Season

Zack Rosenblatt of the Athletic wrote about who the one Jets player on the roster that could breakout in 2026. He thinks that Mitchell could have a breakout season for New York. Rosenblatt said,
“He was a standout in the spring as his chemistry grew with Geno Smith — in the practices media attended, Smith looked his way even more than Garrett Wilson’s. Everyone in the NFL has known about his significant potential as an elite athlete, with the size and athleticism to both run past defensive backs and jump over them to make catches. It just never really came together in Indianapolis. He showed flashes in a half-season as the Jets’ de-facto No. 1 receiver — and with terrible quarterback play. Now, for the first time in his career, he’ll enter a season locked in as a starter. It can’t hurt that the Jets are flush with pass catchers to draw attention away from him, too, between Wilson, Breece Hall and rookies Omar Cooper and Kenyon Sadiq.”
One of the positive things about the Jets this season will be the playmakers that they have. Garrett Wilson, Omar Cooper Jr., Mitchell, Breece Hall, and Kenyon Sadiq. Geno Smith is probably just going to be here for a year at quarterback for New York. They are probably banking on the 2027 NFL Draft in finding a franchise quarterback.
In the meantime, Mitchell and others can prove that this is going to be a solid core for a quarterback to join for the long haul. Mitchell might be the third option in this receiving core, but it is possible that he could have 600 or more yards receiving this season for the Jets.
