While the first days of pre-season are often limited to fitness testing and preparatory work, Iraola will be keen to get the footballs out quickly as he looks to implement his ideas on the squad who are present.

After a three-week holiday, Florian Wirtz is due back around July 21, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak on July 22, and Alisson on July 27.

Alongside the release of Liverpool’s new home kit each season comes a wave of opinion, praising or castigating the new design. Joanna Durkan has ranked the Reds’ last 12 home strips:

“A kit is often made classic by the experiences, silverware or season you have, as well as the way it looks, of course, but there is the opposite side to that as well.

“Liverpool have had three different kit manufacturers between 2015/16 and 2026/27, and there have been notable misses as well as big hits.

“And we have ranked the last 12 home kits from worst to best, which will likely lead to some debate!”
