Alexis Mac Allister and his contract situation is something that has been rumbling on the back burner for a while now.
After a difficult 2025/26 campaign in which the Argentine, like many of his Liverpool team‑mates, struggled to hit previous heights, questions are naturally being asked with his contract expiring in 2028.

Madrid, for their part, seem to be making Mac Allister interest an annual tradition. Crucially, there is still no movement on a new deal at Liverpool Mac Allister’s father and agent, Carlos, has been clear that there are no talks with Liverpool over an extension currently.
With Argentina this summer at the World Cup, he has been indispensable for Lionel Scaloni’s side that have reached the semi-finals in North America.

Aadam Patel of the BBC has reported that Mac Allister is not in active talks with another club, and that it’s expected that Liverpool will get contract talks underway with the 27-year-old over the course of the coming season:
“Mac Allister is still on the five-year deal he signed at Liverpool when he arrived in the summer of 2023, so he still has two seasons left on his contract, but it’s worth noting that currently there are no talks over a new deal nor is Mac Allister in active talks with another club.”
“When you consider that Dominik Szoboszlai – whose contract also ends in 2028 – is in talks over a new deal and Ryan Gravenberch signed a new deal in May, the expectation is that movement on that front for Mac Allister would be expected over the course of the next season.”
Most Liverpool fans will hope that, with a fresh start under Andoni Iraola, last season was merely a blip in his Liverpool journey and that 2026/27 will be a lot better.
