The San Francisco 49ers have a lot of talented players on the roster. One of the most talented players they have on the defensive side of the football is linebacker Fred Warner. The 29-year-old last season recorded 51 tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and three pass deflections. He only played in six games last season and San Francisco had a ton of injuries.

Despite that, they finished with a 12-5 record. This was the first time in Warner’s career that he suffered a season-ending injury. Warner has not been known as a linebacker for recording sacks in his career, but he is known for his IQ and his tackling as well.
NFL Coordinator Has High Praise for San Francisco 49ers Linebacker Fred Warner

Despite only playing in six games last season, Warner was still ranked as the top linebacker entering the 2026 NFL season. One NFL coordinator interviewed with ESPN.com NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler and said,
“He diagnoses faster than anyone. That’s really his secret sauce. Processes the game at an incredibly fast level.”
Hopefully Warner can stay healthy for the entire NFL season for the 49ers. San Francisco’s defense lacked sack production last season, but missing one of the most important players on the defense last season also didn’t help matters. If the 49ers are going to make the playoffs once again, Warner will need to be healthy, and the rest of the defense will need to produce more sacks than it did a season ago.
