As Spain takes on France for a spot in the World Cup finals, no members of the Spanish royal family are set to be in attendance this afternoon in Texas at Dallas Stadium (better known to American fans as AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys). King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sofía were in Barcelona earlier today for the 2026 Princess of Girona Awards ceremony.
The royals, Casa de su Majestad el Rey shared, presented the awards “to six young role models, Spanish and Latin American, who stand out for their leadership, social impact and excellence in the fields of entrepreneurship, research, social action and the arts” at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
The family also missed last week’s quarterfinal match as Princess Leonor completed her military training.

So far, King Felipe is the only member of the royal family to attend the 2026 World Cup; he went to a group stage match in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Spanish king was also featured in a video revealing the country’s 26-player World Cup roster before the tournament began.
The royals are longtime supporters of their national teams, particularly in football. Queen Letizia and Infanta Sofia went to the finals of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, where Spain triumphed over England, and King Felipe has been to every Men’s World Cup since 2006, with the exception of the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

If Spain defeats France this afternoon, they face the winner of England versus Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday for the golden trophy.
