Liverpool have a golden opportunity to sign a fantastic talent for what could prove to be a bargain fee. That much has been made clear as the summer transfer window begins to heat up.
As the Reds attempt to navigate a tricky right-winger market, they must think outside the box. That is simply the reality facing the recruitment team, particularly after top target Yan Diomande decided his future lay with Paris Saint-Germain rather than Anfield.
One highly intriguing option is AS Roma’s Argentine playmakerMatías Soulé. With Roma actively searching for funds to shape their squad, the 23-year-old winger has emerged as the player they are willing to sacrifice.
Even better, Corriere Dello Sport claims AS Roma would sell Soule for around €35m. It’s an incredible price in this market – around one third of what RB Leipzig wanted for Diomande.
Reports in in Italy suggests that Roma’s €35 million (£30 million) asking price could represent a world-beating piece of business for a buyer. Liverpool are in the market for a creative outlet who can operate on the right flank and cut inside on his left foot—a tactical profile Soulé fits perfectly.
Adding to his appeal, the versatile forward is equally comfortable playing centrally as an attacking midfielder behind a striker. Given his massive developmental ceiling, the former Juventus prospect looks like an absolute steal at that price point.
But are Roma genuinely willing to let him walk?
It certainly appears so. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Paulo Dybala is set to renew his contract at the Stadio Olimpico. With Dybala committing his future, the necessity to keep Soulé who shares almost the exact same positional profile and role as his veteran compatriot has significantly decreased.
Roma have effectively made their choice between the two, choosing to cash in on Soulé to fund Gasperini’s transfer plans, which reportedly include a pursuit of Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho.
Soule admits future is out of his hands
The player himself has added fuel to the fire. When questioned at the airport upon returning to Italy for pre-season training, Soulé dropped a telling seven-word hint about his future, admitting:
“Will I stay? Honestly, I don’t know.”
His agent, Martin Guastadisegno, has reportedly been in England holding talks with potential suitors. While the likes of Fulham, Sunderland, and Aston Villa have all been linked, a club of Liverpool’s stature could easily hijack the race if they choose to formalise their interest.

Liverpool should be all over this. At €35 million (£30 million), Matías Soulé represents an incredibly low-risk, high-reward investment.
Following the disappointment of missing out on Diomande, the Argentine offers a creative, technically secure alternative who already boasts significant Serie A experience. He may not be the finished, explosive product just yet, but he has the raw spatial awareness and ball-striking capability that would flourish under Andoni Iraola’s coaching.
At the very least, bringing Soulé to Anfield secures a top-tier young talent who can share the load on the right flank, protecting the club’s asset value while the recruitment staff re-evaluates the market next year. This is a deal with virtually no downside—Liverpool must act.
