Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher expects a mouth-watering clash between Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot. The two Premier League-winning tacticians could go toe-to-toe on the international stage with Klopp said to be on the verge of taking charge of Germany while the Dutchman is in the frame for the Netherlands job.
Klopp's managerial hiatus is set to come to an end as he is reportedly on the verge of replacing Julian Nagelsmann in the Germany hotseat. The iconic Reds boss, who has been out of the dugout since 2024, has been in a senior role with Red Bull as their Head of Global soccer but got a first-hand look at Die Mannschaft as he was a pundit during their ill-fated World Cup campaign.
Ronald Koeman resigned as Holland head coach following their shock exit to Morocco in the round of 32. Slot, who was sacked by Liverpool after a disappointing Premier League title defence, has been linked with an immediate return in the coveted managerial role.
Carragher has highlighted that the two Liverpool greats could lockhorns next year should they take over their respective nations. “Yeah why not," he said on Sky Sports, when asked whether Slot could cope on the world stage.
"He came to the Premier League, he’ll be disappointed about what happened last season but he was in the Premier League for two years and won it first season.
"He had the courage to take over from Jurgen Klopp so I’ll never forget what he did, it was absolutely fantastic. Hopefully it goes well for him, when you’ve been apart of Liverpool, player or manager and move on, we hope they go on and do well… not everybody, 99 percent of them, in their next job.

"Looks like Jurgen Klopp is going to get the German job and I think there is a fixture early next year between Germany and Holland, that might be something to keep an eye on."
Various reports suggest that Klopp is in the hunt to replace Nagelsmann on a permanent basis as he will be tasked with steering them back to the summit of international football.
Dutch outlet De Telegraaf has reported that if Slot joins Holland, he will not forfeit the severance package that he is entitled to after his Liverpool dismissal.

Typically, clubs continue paying their sacked tacticians until the end of their contracts, instead of a lump sum payment. The report suggests that Slot could earn up to €30million from the Reds, who are said to want to top up his salary during the first year in charge of Holland, which would save them millions.
After being relieved of his duties in the Anfield hotseat, he penned an emotional letter to Liverpool supporters. Slot said: "It has been a pleasure working with you all.
"Liverpool’s 20th league title belongs to all of us and it will remain an important chapter in its history. For that we should all be proud. This club will always judge itself by the biggest honours. That is how it should be.
"But I also leave knowing the club is exactly where it belongs: amongst Europe’s elite. Securing Champions League football was an important responsibility and one that ensures Liverpool can continue competing at the highest level next season and beyond.
"I leave with complete confidence in what lies ahead. The players who have given so much to this club, who have upheld its values and helped create so many unforgettable moments, have built foundations that will endure.
"At the same time, a new generation is emerging, ready to write its own story and embrace the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt. Change is part of football, but I know that this club will continue to make its people proud.
"When I first stood beneath that sign in the Anfield tunnel, I knew what this club demanded. I leave knowing we never stopped striving for it."
Thousands of Liverpool fans upgraded their matchday last season. This is how they did it.
