New York Jets’ veteran quarterback Geno Smith can’t seem to stay away from the cops for too long. He recently had an encounter with a cop what seems to be his third time getting in trouble.
On July 6, 2026, Smith was issued citations by the Davie Police Department in Florida for the third time in roughly three months. He was captured from the cop’s body camera and the footage quickly got viral.
Geno Smith and His Third Cops Encounter
Smith was pulled over by the Davie Police Department last week in Florida for the third time in about three months. The traffic stop occurred at 11:20 a.m. near his mansion in Davie, just blocks from his home.
According to body camera footage obtained by the New York Post, Smith was driving a friend’s 2025 silver Aston Martin and was clocked going 70 mph in a 45-mph zone which is 25 mph over the speed limit.

“All right, sir. Beautiful car. Seventy miles an hour, man, that’s too fast for 45,” the cops can be heard stopping Smith.
“I live right here; my license and everything is in my house,” Smith said when he was asked for his driver’s license. He also clarified that the luxury car belonged to a friend. The officer explained that drivers are required to carry a physical ID at all times. “My bad”, Smith responded. Smith was issued two citations, one for unlawful speed and another for failing to carry his driver’s license. He was allowed to leave after the stop.
These repeated encounters have drawn attention as Smith prepares for the upcoming NFL season with the Jets. The most recent stop was relatively routine compared to the earlier ones, but it adds to a narrative of legal and personal scrutiny surrounding the quarterback off the field.
Geno Smith’s Other Police Encounters
Geno Smith has had two other documented run-ins with the Davie Police Department in Florida earlier in the year.
On a rainy afternoon on March 18, Smith was pulled over while driving a Rolls-Royce. The officer noticed the vehicle had license plates registered to a Lamborghini, not the Rolls-Royce.
Bodycam footage shows a visibly annoyed Smith questioning why he was stopped. He repeatedly asked the officer what he had done wrong, even after being told it was an unassigned tag to the vehicle. The officer explained that the tags must match the vehicle.
The second one was rather different the rest of the two. On June 21, Davie police responded to Smith’s residence after a woman called 911. The call was a complain for domestic violence against Geno Smith. “My ex-boyfriend just beat me up,” the woman reportedly said on the 911 call. “Beat my ass cause he HATES taking care of his special needs kid and can’t be left alone with him because he’d rather watch s*x online and play Call of Duty,” screamed the woman in the Instagram video that went viral.
The department initially indicated the case was closed or “not active,” but reopened the investigation shortly afterward following further review. No charges had been filed against Smith at that time.
These incidents, combined with the July speeding stop, have drawn significant media attention due to their frequency within a short period as Smith prepares for the NFL season with the Jets. The June case is still under investigation, and no final legal outcomes have been reported.
